PRACTICING PLENTY

"Practicing Plenty" is a two-day workshop for leaders who want to work out of abundance. Facilitated by Daniel Pryfogle, Signal Hill's principal, the workshop is offered by the Duke University Nonprofit Management Program. Enrollment is limited to 12, and all participants must attend both sessions: Oct. 20 and Nov. 17, 2009, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Glenwood Library in Greensboro, N.C. Register here.

Workshop Description:

A coach "brings out the best" in his team.  A teacher helps a singer "find her voice." A parent won't give up on a child because she knows "what he is capable of." Our language reveals an intuitive understanding of true leadership: it is the capacity to work with what’s already present. Yet we struggle to lead this way, for our culture pushes another definition: leadership is about fixing what's broken and producing what's missing. So other language dominates. "Leaders solve problems." "Leaders make it happen." "Leaders get it done when no one else can." Have you had enough of such leadership? If so, join Daniel Pryfogle, respected teacher and consultant, in discovering another way: how to lead from abundance.

To speak of abundance, especially now amid the global financial crisis, is not to escape from reality but rather to pay attention to more reality: the assets already present in our lives and organizations. Through this unique two-part workshop, leaders will learn a set of practices that draw upon spiritual disciplines and entrepreneurial habits to reframe leadership as participating in plenty. The two-day structure, with four weeks in between sessions, will give leaders an opportunity to practice the practices and return for group reflection.

The class is limited to 12 participants. Participants must attend both sessions. The first session will be held Oct. 20, 2009. The follow-up session will be held Nov. 17, 2009. Both sessions are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break. For registration details, click here.
