Cary, N.C., Nov. 11, 2011 – Senior Correspondent, a media venture driven entirely by the stories of older adults, officially relaunches today on its first anniversary in celebration of America’s veterans.

“This Veterans Day, older adults will demonstrate how they’ve leveraged the power of new media to remember, reflect and reach out across the generations,” says Senior Correspondent founder Daniel Pryfogle. “This seasoned view of the world is essential for the health of our world.”

Featuring exclusive video interviews with World War II soldiers and collected veteran stories, SeniorCorrespondent.com highlights the importance of these heroes on this day in history.

“Senior Correspondent aims to ensure that older adults and the youth of today know the stories of their past, as well as the stories of their present,” Pryfogle says.

Founded by Signal Hill of Cary, N.C., and launched last year on Veterans Day, Senior Correspondent is a first in participatory, citizen journalism: an Internet- and community-based platform where people over the age of 60 report on their lives.

Leveraging the latest in Web technology and social media – highly interactive, participatory tools plus a proprietary user-driven content management system – Senior Correspondent delivers unique perspectives on U.S. and world news, politics, arts, travel, health, technology, money, work, and sports.

Senior Correspondent’s readership has grown over the past year, as has the breadth of subjects and articles on the site. The relaunch includes new coverage of U.S. and world news plus sports. The venture has a growing list of contributors and encourages submissions from readers.

Senior Correspondent has an active presence on Facebook and Twitter. Using a news feed aggregator, the online magazine also gathers news and commentary written by professional journalists and bloggers worldwide.

But Senior Correspondent is more than a dot-com. A grassroots story-gathering and story-telling initiative, Senior Correspondent plans to engage older adults across the U.S. through an inspiring hands-on media development program offered through retirement communities and senior centers. Earlier this year, Senior Correspondent offered its first program, an introduction to social media, at Cary’s Glenaire Retirement Community.

“We seek to create community,” says Mallory Flynn, Senior Correspondent’s digital storytelling specialist. “We know that older adults are passionate about sharing their stories, so we’re finding new and innovative ways to connect these storytellers across the globe.”

Grounded in the latest research on successful aging and life review, Senior Correspondent aims to enhance the well-being of older adults through the power of personal narrative. Stories gathered in communities help provide content for the online magazine and social media; and the perspectives shared through Senior Correspondent inspire ongoing conversation and creation.

“No other media venture has ever brought all of these elements together to create a platform for older adults to share their stories with the world,” says Pryfogle, who is Signal Hill’s principal and creative director.

For many years, this fastest-growing population, rich in experience and assets, has been the object of newsmakers and advertisers, Pryfogle says. “Think about what you have read of older adults or how you’ve seen them portrayed in TV ads. Older adults have been segmented and interpreted, sometimes mobilized and often patronized – by younger generations,” Pryfogle says.

“Here older adults are the subjects,” he says. “They are the actors, the creators, and the producers with the tools to tell their stories. Their seasoned perspectives – diverse, spirited, and wise – are essential for a vibrant culture and democratic society. With Senior Correspondent, their voices are finally heard. ”
